What could you possibly want to know about this digital collection of 1′s and 0′s? What could I possibly write here that you would find interesting enough to read more than a sentence or two? Well, if you’ve gotten this far you either are a glutton for punishment or and incurable blog addict and in either case you should seek professional help immediately.

Well, since this page is “about” the blog, we might as well start with the academic. What do we know about the words that describe this digital illusion? Let’s turn to the American Heritage Dictionary for a relatively succinct explanation of each of the root words of Reality Buffer…

Reality: (rē-āl’ĭ-tē) -
1. The quality or state of being actual or true.
2. One, such as a person, an entity, or an event, that is actual
3. The totality of all things possessing actuality, existence, or essence.
4. That which exists objectively and in fact.

Now some individuals would argue the philosophical implications of such definitions, but let’s just stick to what is presented. The word buffer has several different meanings depending on the parts of speech that it is used, but for our purposes, we are using the following…

Buffer: (bŭf’ər) -
1. Something that lessens or absorbs the shock of an impact.
2. One that protects by intercepting or moderating adverse pressures or influences
3. Something that separates potentially antagonistic entities, as an area between two rival powers that serves to lessen the danger of conflict.
4. Computer Science: A device or area used to store data temporarily.

With these things in mind, we can then draw meaning from the combination of the constituent pieces.

Reality Buffer: (rē-āl’ĭ-tē bŭf’ər) -
1. Something that lessens or absorbs the impact of the state of being actual.
2. One, such as a person, an entity, or an event, that actually protects by intercepting or moderating adverse pressures or influences.
3. Something that separates potentially antagonistic entities, as the totality of all things in actuality, existence, or essence.
4. That which exists to store objectivity and fact temporarily.

The above definitions do not even come close to the recursive paradigm that is created in the execution of this so aptly named diversion. While the format of this blog is to express and share the things we use to divert our energies away from the mundane and the real, the act itself is accomplished in it’s undertaking. That being said, there will be no further discussion about the diversion of blogging on this blog, for that would be even more redundant and nonsensical than these troubled minds could handle.
